Western Canaries (atlantis)

Mantle: slightly darker with a purplish tinge on the back and scapulars and an almost slate-green appearance on the coverts.

Structure: tendency for bills to be finer with a more tapering tip.

Primaries: less white with only 10% showing a mirror on P9 and as many as 20% showing only a small mirror on P10; more black with none showing an indistinct marking on P5.

Calls: deeper, greater tendency for long calls to be close to graellsii. The angle of delivery is the same at 60 degrees.

Moult in adults: more pronounced streaking on head, appearing half-hooded.

First-years: on 9th August, one had only very recently fledged.

Comment: similar in many respects to those in the Azores.
