Figures from Birdwatch regional reports. The April and November reports were not to hand. The total of 124 compares closely to the 116 in the British Birds report above.
These totals are not directly comparable with the presumed migrant totals compiled by British Birds. The records above are unchecked and may include breeding sites, though each breeding site will only feature once per month. On the other hand not all records are submitted to the Birdwatch systems.
An interesting feature for 1999 is the clear-cut start to the main return migration on 28th August with 14 noted in the last four days of August in the south east and three moving in Scotland on 28th August. The south east total included a significant series of records from Ventnor, Isle of Wight, with six noted here from 28th-31st August. In September St Margaret's Bay, Kent, was favoured with birds on five days, including three on 26th.
