Figures from Birdwatch regional reports. The June and November reports were not to hand. The total of 116 compares to 166 in the British Birds report alongside on the parent page. The difference would be reduced to some extent, but certainly not completely, if the June data were available.
These totals are not directly comparable with the presumed migrant totals compiled by British Birds. The records above are unchecked and may include breeding sites, though each breeding site will only feature once per month. On the other hand not all records are submitted to the Birdwatch systems.
An interesting feature for 1998 is the relatively high total for October compared to 2004 and 2005. While the overall total is about half that for 2004-2005, many more have been recorded in October in 1998. Notable records for October 1998 included: 3 in the south west up to 10th, ten in the south east on 3rd, three at St Margaret's Bay, Kent, on 10th, three in East Anglia up to 6th, four in the midlands up to 4th, three in the north east up to 3rd and two in the north west on 2nd. Thus 28 of the 29 for the month occurred up to 10th. A straggler was at Saltfleetby, Lincolnshire, on 19th.
